The hills around Zurich

Three afternoon „adventures“. Individual or guided tours with a picnic or some rest in a guesthouse on the way.. And at the end, it’s always pleasant to return downtown with the wind blowing through your hair. Promised!

Zurichberg: Tram 9/10 from central-square to the Rigiblick cablecar station. Up on the tracks and stroll from Rigiblick along the edge of the forest to the hotel Zurichberg – cemetary of Fluntern – Zoo. Why not visiting once the graves of James Joyce and Elias Canetti, the two Nobel Prize winners in literature? Tram 6 takes you back to town. Duration about 3 hours.

Käferberg: Tram 13 from Zurich mainstation to the quarter of Höngg, high above the Limmat valley. Steep walk now from Meierhoferplatz up to the top of the hill. We‘ll meet the „sience city“-buildings of the ETH-campus and very soon after, we’ll arrive at the beautiful situated restaurant „Waid“. Sitting behind a steaming  afternoon-cup of tea, we enjoy the breath-taking  view of the entire town and lake, with the white shimmering alps behind: the peaks of the Glärnisch, Tödi etc. Bus 69/Tram 11,14,15 takes us back. Duration about 3 hours.

Üetliberg: Climbing on Zurichs mountain (2400 feets) by using the S10 from Zurich mainstation, track number 2. What a gorgeous view from that peak! From here a 2 hours ridge-walk to the cablecar of Felsenegg. The way down to Adliswil is comfortable, and by taking the S4 train you get easily back to the heart of Zurich. Duration about 5 hours.
